This is a yellowish-brown peat where the plant material is only slightly decomposed and the plant residues are still clearly visible. Light (blonde) peat forms the top layer of the bog, is exposed to very little pressure, and for this reason has a low degree of compaction, classified at H1-H3 on the von Post scale. There are several methods for extracting this peat, the most common being the sod-cut peat and surface-milled peat extraction method. Then, using star sieves, the peat is fractionated into different particle sizes ranging from very fine to coarse.
