Perlite is a sterile, very light, natural product that ventilates and loosens the soil and retains moisture.

It is a thermally-expanded volcanic rock with many pores and capillaries.

Perlite is non-flammable, and is resistant to acid, bacteria and sunlight.

The use of perlite in substrate production reduces the concentration of salts and promotes the long- lasting effect of fertiliser. Its light colour enhances photosynthesis in the UV spectrum (this is important when there is little sunlight).

Perlite accelerates germination, promotes root formation and growth, reduces transplant shock and damage, prevents plants from drying out, reduces temperature shock, improves soil aeration, improves soil water absorption and reduces evaporation.

Perlite increases the moisture around the plant, allowing air and moisture to reach the roots. This is important because of the absorption of oxygen and water that takes place through the roots.

It is free of weed seeds and diseases, because it is of inorganic origin and the pH is neutral.
